This October, Broadway Productions returns to 3DXChat with a brand-new staging of one of musical theatre’s most celebrated works: West Side Story

Conceived by Jerome Robbins with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story reimagines Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet amid the tenements and streets of New York City’s Upper West Side in the 1950s.

The neighbourhood is divided by a bitter rivalry between two teenage gangs. The Jets, led by Riff, are determined to defend the territory they consider their own. The Sharks, led by Bernardo, are a group of young Puerto Rican newcomers fighting to build a life and earn respect in a city that often treats them with hostility.

Caught between them are Tony and Maria. Their chance meeting sparks an immediate and powerful connection, but the conflict surrounding them leaves little room for hope. As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, their love becomes entangled in a cycle of prejudice, pride and violence.

With its unforgettable score, thrilling choreography and deeply human story, West Side Story remains as moving and relevant today as when it first took the stage.
